Anniversary Weekend, Part II

After our lovely romantic night on Friday night we had the best, most fun day on Saturday. We had Twins tickets for the 6pm game against the Orioles. 20 rows behind home plate.

As we woke up Saturday morning...hungry of course, we went and had coffee and carmel rolls at our little cafe around the corner, then we walked down to the lake and sat on our bench and people-watched. we just had a relaxing day and morning, gearing up for our fun night...and fun it was....

tony showered me with many anniversary gifts, even though we agreed to just get cards...so as tony only got a card from me, per our agreement, he got me the best gifts ever.
his first wave of gifts included a twin ensemble, the cutest pink hat and an equally girly team shirt (disclaimer: i am still a cubs fan to the core, but i now have a favorite american league team. i will be attending the cubs/twins game in june in full cubs gear).

tony of course was also decked out in twins gear.

But my favorite part of my outfit was....

The 3 diamond necklece tony surprised me with!! Here's a close-up of my new necklace which I looked at every 2 minutes. my sweet husband makes me feel so girly, i love it...what girl doesn't love diamonds.....he had the new necklace neatly displayed in a picture frame...so special.

ok, we're off to the ballgame. we took the bus to the game and went early so we could enjoy the outdoor festivities that included fried cheesecurds, mini doughnuts (yes, we did 'mini'), and of course some pre-game beverages. we found our way to our prime seats and realized really quickly that we were so close the players and umps could hear our cheers!! the game was awesome, and altough the twins lost, there were a couple highlights....one would include the fact that i prophetically called the grand slam Cuddyer hit....the other highlight would be my other suprise from my loving husband. as i was looking at the scoreboard jumbotron screen there it was
"Happy 1st Anniversary
Shelly Strand
I Love You, Love Anton"

My husband put my name in lights. It made me cry. as we sat among thousands of fans, I cried realizing I have the best husband in the world and have been blessed to spend the past year of mairrage with him, and will be blessed to spend many more together.

We came home after a perfect day and toasted our first year of mairrage with our wedding glasses and enjoyed our "mock wedding cake" (our actual wedding cake is still in my mom's freezer)

I love you Tony, my husband.

Thanks bloggers for letting us share our weekend with you!

The End.

Anniversary Weekend, Part I

tony and i are celebrating our first year anny this weekend, i'll start with our Friday night activities.

We got all fancied up and went to a swanky wine bar/restaurant called Auriga here in uptown. very quaint and romantic, but tony and i decided we are not all about tiny tiny portions, we are americans and we want our food...as tony has been noted to say "i don't do mini."
We started off ordering "amuse" which the waitress described as 'litte bites'...tony and i assumed she meant 'bite-size', but nope..she literally meant bite..singular...
so we of course had to order salads also, not to mention we kept asking for more bread to fill us up, then we moved on to our entree's. i actually ordered duck, it was so good...but again, tiny. i was all worried cause it was going to come with stuffed pasta, and i dont do carbs, but there were only 2 tiny stuffed pastas so i think i was ok. we took pics of our entrees too, but they are too dark since we didn't use the flash, as not to draw attention to our mocking of our meal.
all in all, the meal was really good, but by the time we were done we both ageed we would visit the little cheesecake cafe down the street.
the waitress did bring us a little surprise before we left, a dessert with a special message....and yes, we still did go have cheescake after our 2 bites of their fancy dessert.

the funniest part of the night to us, was the valet parking situation with tony's car. mind you, we are at this fancy joint where people are rolling up in mercedes or at least 2006 honda's, and we roll up in tony's '92 olds that just rolled over 200,000 miles in may. as we pull up and hand the keys off to the valet boy, tony of course had to mention not to use the turn signals or smoke would come out of the steering column...anyway, as we sat at dinner, we noticed that many expensive cars rolled up and the valet boy kindly removed the orange cones that reserved prime spots in the parking lot. as we left the restaurant we noticed that our car was not in the lot and there we still several 'reserved-orange-cone-worthy' spots left. at this point tony was a bit embarrassed by our car, so he just told the valet boy that we could walk to our car, the valet boy handed over the keys, and there the 'olds sat, IN THE STREET. ahhaha...they didn't even park it in the lot, they parked it on the street. they either didnt' want it seen in their lot, or they were afraid it would start on fire and ruin thier business. we had a great laugh and decided from now on, if we ever went to a fancy restaurant we would either take a cab or rent a car.

O, also i must mention there was a $4000 bottle of wine on the menu. yep, 4 zero's.

to be continued....
